Chat Noir is a phantom thief with a cat-cyborg appearance whose name is known across the continent. The only thing that's really known about him is that he always sends a warning letter with a cat mark on it before stealing works of art. He's taken something of a liking to Justin of the Civil Guard, and makes a point of teasing him.

1.18Chat Noir — Puzzle Game
The goal of Chat Noir is to stop the cat from escaping the board. Eachturn you click on a circle, which prevents the cat from stepping onthat space, and the cat responds by taking a step. If the cat iscompletely boxed in and thus unable reach the border, you win. If thecat does reach the border, you lose.
Chat Noir Game
To start a new game, hit the “n” key (but only after losing orwinning a game).
To play Chat Noir, run the PLT Games program. (Under Unix, it’s called plt-games).
To get some insight into the cat’s behavior, press the “h”key. It will show you the cells that are on the cat’s shortest path tothe edge, assuming that the cell underneath the mouse has beenblocked, so you can experiment to see how the shortest paths changeby moving your mouse around. Note that this slows down the gameconsiderably, so you can turn it back off by pressing “h” again.
The game was inspired by the one atGameDesign and has essentially the same rules. It also inspired the finalproject for the introductory programming course at the University ofChicago in the fall of 2008.
The remainder of this document explains the implementation ofthe Chat Noir game in aLiterate Programming style.
